Washington is really an interesting place to live. You have quite a variety of people all in one state. With it being such a unique place, Washington has a handful of weird and crazy laws. Most of these laws have been on the books for ages, but surprisingly not all of them are old. Take a look at these out there laws.

DWARF TOSSING

The Senate of Washington State has been making efforts in 2019 to ban dwarf tossing at bars. Has this really been an issue? Reportedly a number of professional dwarves showed up to protest the law, stating that it was how they made their money.

TEAR GAS CANISTERS

For some reason Washington felt it was necessary to make it illegal for minors to toss tear gas grenades/canisters without their parent’s consent. Has this really ever been an issue?

LEAVE BIGFOOT ALONE

It is illegal to harass bigfoot in any way in the State of Washington. This law also applies to other undiscovered subspecies of bigfoot such as sasquatch. Leave the poor guy alone, if he hasn’t come out of hiding yet, he probably doesn’t want to be disturbed.

REPORT THAT YOU ARE A CRIMINAL

Motorists are required by law to stop at the border of a town and report criminal intentions to the police chief before they enter a town. The law was created to help curb crime but do you think criminals will actually make that phone call?

“Hello Mr. Police Chief, I am a criminal and wanted to let you know I am entering your town now.”

THE COMMON COLD IN PUBLIC IS ILLEGAL

A law on the books states that you can’t walk in public if you have a communicable disease. That includes the common cold. So the State just wants you to stay home when you have the common cold.

PROTECT THE BEER

Washington State did get one weird law right. It is illegal to destroy someone else’s beer container. That includes a cask or bottle. Leave my beer alone.

UGLY HORSES

In Wilbur, Washington it is illegal to ride any horse that has been deemed as ugly. That’s stupid because ugly horses deserve love too.

NO EXTREME SHOE FITTING

Some people really want their shoes to fit. So much so that they use X-rays to get their shoes to fit perfectly. Well, not in Washington State because it is illegal to use an x-ray machine to fit shoes.

MAPLE LANE SCHOOL FOR GIRLS IS OFF LIMITS

Washington State RCW 72.20 is a section of laws that all refer to the now closed Maple Lane School For Girls. It was a former correctional facility for young girls. One of those laws makes it illegal to entice a girl away from the school. Shouldn’t this be illegal for all schools, not just Maple Lane School?

DANCING AND DRINKING

We have heard of laws about drinking and driving but a law about drinking and dancing? In Lyden, Washington an establishment can not offer both drinking and dancing.

HYPNOTIZED STORE FRONTS

Have you ever thought about hypnotizing a person and putting them in your store window in order to show off a cool product? Neither have we. But in Everette, Washington it is illegal. We wonder how that became true.

LIFE JACKETS NOT ALLOWED

Anytime you are around water, life jackets are always advised. But if you are in Spokane, Washington life jackets are illegal to wear around the parts of rivers where swimming is not allowed. Even if you are working near the water.

These are definitely some weird laws. Now most of them are not enforced anymore and not officially in modern law books, but they sure are entertaining. One has to sit there and wonder, “why did they have to pass a law against that?”
