A QUARTER OF VOLCANOS IN THE US ARE IN WASHINGTON
A total of 20 active volcanos are in the lower 48 states. Out of those volcanos, 5 of them are in Washington. The volcanos are: Mount St. Helens, Mount Rainier, Mount Adams, Glacier Peak, and Mount Baker. There are also a handful of non-active volcanos in the state. All of these volcanos are popular places to hike and explore despite the power they have.

A STATE OF FARMERS
Many people think of Microsoft and Boeing when they think of Washington State. However, Washington is the biggest grower of Apples, pear, red raspberry, and sweet cherries in the country. The state holds more than technology and actually has a large amount of wilderness and farmland.
The Big Apple doesn’t got anything on Washington State.
A THOUSAND DAMS
Across Washington you will find 1,000 dams. These dams vary greatly in size but range from very big to very little. The largest damn in the country is the Washington State Grand Coulie Dam.
THE FAKE NEIGHBORHOOD
Washington State has been home to Boeing since before World War II. During WWII, Boeing set up a fake neighborhood in Seattle to hide their airplane making facilities. A Hollywood set designer was brought in to ensure quality design.
A BIKE IN A TREE?
On Vashon Island in Washington, you will find a very unique sight. A tree grew around a bike that was chained to it and now that bike is enveloped in the tree. If you ask a local they will tell you a young man chained the bike to the tree before he left for World War I and never returned to claim it, so the tree claimed it.
VERY AMERICAN
Washington State is home to more Bald Eagles than any other state. One of the best places to find them is on the San Juan Islands. However, if you keep a watchful eye out, you can spot them across the state. The large amount of wilderness and the abundance of food makes it a perfect home for these majestic birds.
THE PIG WAR
At one point in time the British Empire, who controlled Canada, and the United States almost went to war over a pig. The pig escaped its enclosure and trespassed in the San Juan Islands. While it was trespassing it began eating potato crops, and as a result, the farmer shot the pig. The shooting of that pig almost spurred the first war between the United States and Canada.
THE SMALLEST WORLD’S FAIR
The 1974 World’s Fair was hosted in Spokane, Washington. Spokane is the smallest city that has ever played host to the World’s Fair. It was also the first time that the Fair’s theme was the environment. A fitting choice because Washington State is very pro-environment!
Washington has actually played host to the World’s Fair twice. Once in Seattle, once in Spokane.
